Products of Conception
The products of conception test, also known as POC, looks at fetal tissue from the pregnancy loss. The test examines all 46 chromosomes and determines if the miscarriage was caused by a chromosomal imbalance.
Who should have this test?
If you have suffered a recent miscarriage, the POC test can help you to understand the cause and if there are ways to reduce the chance for additional losses in future pregnancies.
How to order this test
We are sorry that you are miscarrying and suffering this loss. We know this is not an easy time so the results obtained from the testing may help reduce your emotional burden and indicate if there are ways to minimize the risk of a miscarriage in a future pregnancy.
The miscarried tissue should be collected in a sterile, or near as clean as can be, container. This container can be a brand new Ziploc bag, plastic container (like Tupperware) or a specimen cup. It may be helpful to use a medical basin or a colander under the toilet seat to catch the products. If your doctor is suspecting a miscarriage, they may provide you with a specimen cup and medical basin.
Once the sample is collected, bring the sample to your ordering doctor’s office or fertility clinic. If you cannot bring it to them immediately, place the sample in the fridge until you can drop it off.
